INSTALLING LEWP ON IBM NETWORKS LEWP supports the IBM PC Network and the IBM Token-Ring Network. Before you begin on-line installation procedures, please review your CUSTOMER SUPPORT GUIDE. These instructions assume your network is set up and ready to operate. To install LEWP on an IBM network, you will: 1. Copy LEWP program files to the server by running the INSTALNT program. 2. Copy the printer driver files to the server by running the PRINSTAL program. 3. Copy the Spelling and Help files to the server. COPYING LEWP PROGRAM FILES TO THE SERVER To install LEWP on a network server, you run the INSTALNT program on the LEWP Master Disk. It copies the LEWP program files onto the server. Installation creates a subdirectory (\LEWP) where LEWP files are stored. Before you begin, note that the commands in this section include the variables X, Y, and Z. Substitute the following information for these variables: X = the letter of the logical drive. Y = the name of the server. Z = the network name for the shared directory on the server. To run INSTALNT: 1. Make sure the server is booted. 2. Type NET USE X: \\Y\Z and press RETURN, substituting the correct information for the variables. In the example NET USE F: \\SMITH\ROOT, F is the letter of the logical drive, SMITH is the name of the server, and ROOT is the network name for the shared directory on the server SMITH. 3. Type X: and press RETURN, substituting the letter of the logical drive for X. This will make the logical drive the current drive. 4. Insert the LEWP Master Disk in Drive A. 5. Type A:INSTALNT X and press RETURN, substituting the letter of the logical drive for X. This command creates a subdirectory (\LEWP) on the server. The program files from the LEWP Master Disk are copied into this subdirectory. 6. When the X prompt reappears on the screen, you have completed this procedure. Remove the LEWP Master Disk from Drive A. Next you will copy printer drivers to the server. COPYING PRINTER DRIVERS TO THE SERVER To prepare LEWP to recognize the printers you use on your network, you run the PRINSTAL program on the LEWP Tutorial & Utilities Disk. This copies the printer driver files, the software instructions that run a particular printer, to the server. Before you begin, note that the commands in this section include the variables X, Y, and Z. Substitute the following information for these variables: X = the letter of the logical drive. Y = the name of the server. Z = the network name for the shared directory on the server. To run PRINSTAL: 1. Make sure the network server is booted. 2. Type X: and press RETURN, substituting the letter of the logical drive for X. This makes the logical drive the current drive. 3. Insert the LEWP Tutorial & Utilities Disk in Drive A. 4. Type A:PRINSTAL XT and press RETURN. A printer selection menu appears. You can choose up to five printers. For each one you select, a printer driver file is copied to the \LEWP\BINS subdirectory on the network server. 5. Select your printer(s). Press the UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW keys to move the screen arrow next to the name of your printer. Press PAGE UP or PAGE DOWN if you need to see more printers on the list. If your printer is not listed, you can print with a preinstalled driver called PRINTER. (Refer to PREPARING YOUR PRINTER in the CUSTOMER SUPPORT GUIDE.) 6. Press RETURN. The printer's name is highlighted. Choose up to four more printer models by repeating Steps 5 and 6. 7. Press END when you finish. The screen displays your selection(s). 8. Press RETURN if the selections are correct. OR Press ESCAPE to start over. 9. When a screen message says you've completed the procedure, remove the disk from Drive A. COPYING SPELLING AND HELP FILES Now copy the Spelling and Help files to the \LEWP\BINS subdirectory on the server. You need the LEWP Spelling and Help Disk. Y = the name of the server. Z = the network name for the shared directory on the server. To copy the Spelling and Help files: 1. Make sure the server is booted. 2. Type X: and press RETURN, substituting the letter of the logical drive for X. This will make the logical drive the current drive. 3. Insert the LEWP Spelling and Help Disk in Drive A. 4. Type A:SPLHLPXT and press RETURN. 5. Make sure the LEWP Spelling and Help Disk is in Drive A. 6. Press any key to continue. 7.
